Outreach Events

AWM organizes frequent visits to Pioneer High School in Woodland for a lunch club called Pioneer Women in STEM. To get involved, contact Katy Jarvis at <kjjarvis <symbol> ucdavis <symbol> edu>.

AWM members are also very involved in related outreach organizations, including:

  • M-Pact, a UCD math department organization led by Elena Fuchs which runs hands-on, thought-provoking math activities every week at the Smythe Academy, a junior high school in the Twin Rivers School District in Sacramento, with the goal of diversifying the mathematical community.
  • STEM for Girls an annual event hosted by the WRRC for encouraging middle-school-aged girls to do STEM. See more at this page.
  • Math Circle , a student-run, volunteer-based outreach program for NorCal high school and middle school students, focused on exposing young people to beautiful and intriguing mathematics that is often left out of standard curricula and reserved for math majors at university.
